The end of Day Camp!

Day camp is officially over! It is kind of sad in a way because I will not be seeing most of my kids anymore, but 5 of them will be coming to the leadership and peer education camp that I begin running this week. I am really enjoying my time here. I went to Ngorongoro Crater on Sunday and saw a ton of animals, even lions! The animals came so close to our jeep!!

I am officially 3 weeks from leaving Africa. The first 3 went so quickly, that I am thinking that these next 3 will fly as well. I am kind of glad in one way, but kind of sad in another. I will miss everyone here and I love the area. But I am also ready for a cheeseburger! Lol. I am getting kind of sick of rice at least once a day, many days twice. I have no idea how they do it. I guess it is because they do it their whole lives. The other volunteers and I had to explain to the Tanzanian counterparts that we were working with that Americans like to have a little bit of everything, not just a big serving of one thing! J

I am looking forward to getting back to share all of my pictures with everyone! They number close to 1000 by now I think

Keep all the emails coming! I love to hear from home and I try to respond as early as I can. I worked really close to an internet café the past 2 weeks and I will be able to take my laptop to work this week to get free wifi!

Week 1 of teaching

I have now been teaching for a week! Our kids are great! It will be sad to say goodbye to most of them next week, but I will still be working with 10 of them the next week at leadership training!
I went on Safari yesterday at Arusha National park. We saw a ton of giraffes! It was so cool to be so close to the animals. I liked it so much, in fact, that I am thinking of going on another, 2 day, safari next weekend! These first few weeks have gone by so fast, I can't believe that I am already 1/3rd of the way done! I look forward to getting home and sharing all of my photos and experiences with everyone!

1 Week down

Everything is going great here in Tanzania! I have limited internet access, but I try to check when I can. Updating may be a weekly thing now. I am having a blast! My homestay family is wonderful. I have 2 brothers that live at home, 1 sister and 2 nieces! My Mama is a great cook and I love the African food! My Swahili is slowly improving. I enjoy the amount of walking that I have to do ( a lot) because it is getting me back into shape!
Everything here is close together so it does not take long to get anywhere in town!
I start my daycamp assignment tomorrow and I am looking forward to it so much! I really hope that I can make a difference in the lives of these kids.

Greetings From Tanzania!

I arrived in Arusha last night at about 7:30 local time and went straight to my hostel to sleep! Jet lag is no fun! There was a little confusion and I was unable to find a payphone to call my parents and Devin so they were worried, but I was able to get to the internet this morning (obviously!) The weather is beautiful here and there are not that many bugs. Maybe that is because of the copious amounts of DEET I sprayed on...lol all the bugs stay away.
I have internet access here at the Hostel so I will be able to check my email reletivly frequently, so I would love to hear from everyone! I will most likly check about once a day or so, which means I might not get to your email until the middle of the night back home! I am looking forward to meeting the other girls from my group tonight and I will update everyone on how training is going when I can.
I look forward from hearing from everyone!
